The 27th MOBO Awards took the UK by storm on February 18, 2025, at the Utilita Arena Newcastle, delivering a night full of excitement and groundbreaking achievements. Bashy, a name that resonated strongly throughout the evening, made an impressive comeback after a 15-year hiatus. His album, Being Poor Is Expensive, snagged the prestigious Album of the Year award. If that wasn't enough to mark his return, he also took home the trophy for Best Hip-Hop Act, redefining success in his genre.

The night was historic not just for Bashy. Central Cee solidified his place in music lore by taking the Best Male Act honor. In doing so, he tied with the legendary Stormzy for the most MOBO awards won by any rapper, confirming his influence and dominance in the industry.

A shining highlight of the evening was Ayra Starr’s monumental win, making her the first African female artist in 16 years to clinch both Best International Act and Best African Music Act. Her achievements echo the growing influence and presence of African artists on the global stage.

The MOBOs didn’t stop there. Darkoo took home awards for Best Female Act and Song of the Year with Favourite Girl Feat. Dess Dior, reinforcing her position as a leading force in contemporary music. Meanwhile, Odeal emerged as a promising talent, capturing both Best Newcomer and Best R&B/Soul Act, signalling a bright future ahead.

Other accolades included Ezra Collective for Best Jazz Act and Pozer snagging Best Drill Act. The evening was electrified with performances that transcended borders, including acts by Spice, Krept & Konan, and a heartfelt UK R&B tribute featuring Shola Ama and Nao.

Following the event, fans were treated to a BBC One special, MOBO Awards 2025: Access All Areas, which aired on February 21, offering behind-the-scenes insights into one of the most celebrated nights in music.
